Understanding ADHD

For many, ADHD isn’t what they expect.

It’s often thought of as hyperactivity, difficulty sitting still and/or inattention, lack of focus.
But for many adults, young people, and parents of neurodiverse children, ADHD shows up in quieter, less obvious ways - constant mental noise, emotional overwhelm, overthinking, difficulty regulating emotions, impulsive decisions, burnout, or patterns of dopamine-seeking such as scrolling, comfort eating, spending, or other addictive behaviours.

At times, emotions can feel intense, unpredictable, or hard to manage, which can be confusing both for the person experiencing them and for the people around them.

If you’ve found yourself wondering, “Why does everything feel harder for me?” or you’re trying to understand a child or teenager who seems overwhelmed, sensitive, reactive, or constantly seeking stimulation, you’re not alone.

This space is here to help you make sense of the inner experience of ADHD, recognise the patterns with compassion, and understand how this unique brain works - for you or for someone you care about.

The articles and resources shared here come from my personal experience, professional learning, and the conversations I have every day. They are honest reflections of what I’ve seen, learned, and lived. They won’t resonate with everyone, and they’re not meant to be one-size-fits-all, but they are true to me, and I hope they help you feel understood, supported, and less alone.
